GPS MAP PLOTTING INFORMATION Clear Track Ahead, LLC uses "state of the art" computerized mapping and the Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate railroad milepost locations. The latitude/longitude map points are obtained using DeLormeTM products including both their maps and Earthmate GPS LT-20 system, ERIS compatible. This combination uses the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84) otherwise referred to as: XYZ Cartesian coordinates for latitude and longitude. The CTA DeLorme equipment used is WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) enabled. This means that the equipment is taking advantage and benefit from roughly 25 ground reference stations positioned across the US. These ground stations monitor GPS Satellite data. Two master stations are located on each coast and provide corrective data. This insures the most accurate cost effective service. Over 27 GPS Satellites orbit above the earth. The Earthmate GPS receiver analyzes signals from these satellites. Using a signal measurement system of trilateration ( not triangulation) quite precise earth positions can be determined. A minimum of 3 satellite signals is required. Accuracy to within 3 meters is to be expected. The GPS system provides all weather, 24 hour per day global coverage. | |||
