Emergency Management

Planning for emergency responses to off highway sites presents unique challenges.  The most common are railroads and off highway trails.

GPS mapping improves both emergency planning and responses.

GPS mapping can:

  • Identify critical infrastructure locations
  • Identify important access locations
  • Identify specialized population areas
  • Identify inacessible locations
  • Identify staging postitions
  • Identify high hazard locations or routes (PIH-TIH)
  • Incorporate non-traditional addressing systems

Speaking the same map language is important. Large events frequently are multijurisdictional. Common maps are critical.

Railroads, trails and some large industrial installations have their own internal addressing systems. Integrating these system addresses with emergency planning maps enhances positive outcomes.

Critical to effective planning is having accurate maps that identify key infrastructure, points of interest and routes.
