THE PROBLEM

•  Railroads and 911 emergency centers do not share common map and address bases
•  In reporting an emergency, 911 centers have great difficulty recognizing a railroad "right of way"- ROW location
• Railroad employees are frequently unfamiliar with adjoining highways and streets
• Confusion results in a delayed emergency response

THE GOAL

"Reduce the time it takes the first emergency responders to reach the reported event"

THE SOLUTION

• CTA uses GPS technology to plot railroad rights of way in a format familiar to most 911 centers
• Identify 911 jurisdictions by milepost location
• Railroad mileposts, "place names" unique to the ROW and local roadways are intergrated with local maps
• The process generates maps that are unique to, and localized for, the railroad and emergency responder
